Tour Plan

1

Arrive in the Wadi Rum desert, overnight in a Bedouin desert camp

At the time of your choice you will arrive at the Bedouin desert camp. Try to arrive before sunset. Every sunset can be very spectacular when the sun disappears behind the mountains, to be seen at one of the most beautiful places at your desert camp. A deliciously prepared traditional dinner buffet awaits you with perhaps the zarb which is cooked underground, under the sand. Supplemented with a delicious vegetable and salad buffet and a vegetarian meal. You will see us in the evening to welcome you, tell you more about the horses and answer your questions. In the camp you have your own bathroom in the tent and you sleep on real beds. Tomorrow you will meet the horses!

The horse trek through the Wadi Rum

Horse expedition preparations

The Bedouins are up early to feed and saddle the horses for the trek. To prepare the expedition, especially to load all the supplies for the guests, the horses, the food and the sleeping, fill the water tank and bring enough diesel. Your luggage also goes on the jeep. The jeep with the horses either comes to the desert camp or you are taken to the horses, depending on which route is chosen for this day.

Start of horse riding in the desert

Together with your horse, your fellow companions and the horseback guide, you will enter the desert for a great adventure. When everyone is used to riding and everything is in order, you can enjoy the landscape that is constantly changing. In colours, in rocks, in vegetation and even in the ground, from sand dunes to rocky places, you notice the difference in height, sometimes through gorges, or over wide plains, along rock inscriptions, beautiful vistas, sometimes accompanied by some birds. You see the camels that walk freely through the desert. Sometimes you see a shepherd with a herd of goats and sheep. The horses know the desert and are prepared for everything you encounter.

The gaits of the Arabian horses, together with your guide

You master walk, trot and gallop. This time you experience this on an Arabian horse. There are certain areas that lend themselves well to a bit more speed and areas where it is better to walk. The guide on horseback indicates the gaits and speed.

Half day tour, with overnight stay?

If you choose a half day, the trip is around 3 hours, sometimes you go back to the starting point, or you stop before or after lunch or before the evening. Then the horses trot back together with the jeep and you in the jeep. Or you choose to sleep a night together with the horses under the stars.

Lunch

After a few hours on horseback, there is lunch in the desert. Freshly prepared, a light lunch that you mop up with bread. The horses also get their lunch after they are unsaddled to relax for a while. Depending on the season, the lunch break is longer or shorter. In the summer you can even have a short siesta. While in the winter you quickly continue riding to stop before dark at a nice sleeping place where you spend the evening and night.

A day of horse riding

If you choose to ride a horse for a day, you will ride a different route back to the starting point after lunch. You can sleep another night in the already known desert camp or you can travel on to your next destination.

A day of horse riding with overnight stay

If you stay the night, the horses will also sleep there. The preparations for dinner are already in full swing. The camp for the night has been made, the wood fire to sit around is already burning. The horses are unsaddled, many horses love a sand bath, they are ready to receive their food, maybe drink some water. They enjoy the Bedouin life, it brings some horses back to the time when they traveled with the Bedouins from place to place.

Evening ritual with the horses and the Bedouins

The light slowly fades, you see the first star appear in the sky, soon more follow. Often the moon rises a little later and you see the moonlight shining over the contours of the rocks. Dinner is served on the "table", traditionally prepared from the Jordanian kitchen by your guides. A moment of enjoyment after a great day. After dinner, the mattresses for the night are ready to be covered with blankets and pillows for a good night's sleep in nature with a view of the starry sky. Your horse in your vicinity. Some horses lie down, others are standing to sleep.

After breakfast in the desert, return to the starting point

The day awakens, the sun almost always shines. The horses look for something to eat or get their hay. First, the teapot is filled and the fire is fed and stoked again. The Bedouins start preparing breakfast and in the meantime tidy up what goes straight onto the jeep. After the delicious and nutritious breakfast, the last things go onto the jeep, the horses either walk along the jeep or are free to trot home. You go to your car or taxi to continue your journey or go home with the horses in anticipation of your next activity. In the meantime, you can freshen up. After the jeep is empty again and the horses are in place, you go along to your new desert adventure.
